News channels and social media accounts worldwide have been drawing our attention to the continuous rise in global warming. Global climate change is indeed upon us . As a result we have been seeing extreme weather conditions around the globe .Western Europe and China have been experiencing terrible flooding . Canada has been having record high temperatures above 50 degrees , as wildfires continue to erupt. It is estimated that over the next five years temperatures will increase by 1.5 degrees.
What the experts have to say about global warming .
Professor Francois Engelbrecht a leading author for IPCC Reports states ‘it may take centuries for ice sheets to melt away…but it means our generation will commit future generations to a very different world’.
Likewise Greta Thunderburg a youth climate activist simply says this is not the ‘‘New Normal ‘’. We are facing the very start of a climate emergency. As a result extreme weather events will continue to occur if we do not take action now. She says, “Unless we treat the crisis like a crisis all the time, we will not be able to halt the climate emergency”.
I was listening to a podcast by The Economist titled Three-degree burn: the warmer world that awaits. In fact global climate change statistics report that all coral reefs could be gone within decades if sea surface temperatures continue to rise.
