National Recycling Day …….. this makes my heart sing!
Let’s celebrate the amazing benefits of recycling and how YOU can help. If you have read any of my previous blogs you will know that recycling is close to my heart.
Lets get ready as ‘Clean-Up & Recycle SA Week’ starts on the 13th to the 17th of September 2021.
This year’s week will once again culminate in National Recycling Day on Friday, 17 September 2021 and to top it off the International Coastal Clean-Up Day. Let’s Do It World Clean-up Day falls on Saturday, 18 September 2021.This event is in fact the world’s biggest volunteer effort for Ocean health.
South Africa has dedicated a week to cleaning up our cities and oceans. All you need to do is show up and do your part.

What can you do to help?
During this week I encourage you to head off to a location of your choice and fill at least one black bag full of rubbish . Once collected you will need to split the rubbish into what can be salvaged and what cannot. You can then arrange for Clearer Conscience Recycling Company to collect the recyclable goods from your doorstep. It couldn’t be easier.
How does Recycling contribute to a greener South Africa?
Job Creation
By collecting rubbish you automatically contribute to 60 000- 90 000 collectors jobs alone. You are affording them the opportunity to feed their families and at the same time protecting our planet from excess waste piling up in our landfill.
Contributing to the economy
By reprocessing your waste appropriately you contribute to the overall wealth of South Africa. It is estimated that recyclable goods contribute about R8.2 billion worth of resources to SA’s economy annually.
Reducing waste
Start at home. Get yourself a compost bin in addition to your recycling bins. We love our compost bin and enjoy the fact that our food waste is also being reused. If you don’t like the idea of a compost bin get a pig ! You will be sure to have zero waste ?
A circular economy is really important in facilitating waste reduction, creating job opportunities as well as boosting our economy’s well being.
Interesting fact ?
Mpact Recycling states that “over 11.3 million tonnes of paper and paper packaging has been recovered in SA over the past 10 years”. That figure is amazing and I can only wonder how much greater that figure will be in years to come.
I have added some amazing Instagram accounts below for you to check out , they practice recycling on a daily basis. How awesome is that!
In love, happiness and encouragement for a cleaner SA.
