Pansy
Clear Crystal Mix
The name “pansy” comes from the French word “pensee,” meaning “thought.” In the language of flowers, pansies signify remembrance. In the early 19th century, Lord Gambier and his gardener William Thompson produced the original pansy hybrid, a cross between various species of native violets. The new species received the name “wittrockiana” in honor of noted Swedish botanist Viet Brecher Wittrock
The flowers are edible and can be used as garnishes, or in salads.
Leave one seedling to grow per plant pod and these will sprout within 7-14 days and will be ready to harvest as it reaches a desirable size. Pansy grows best at temperatures of 15°-20°.
For cut flowers, choose stems with flowers that have just opened. Strip the foliage that will fall below the water level, and place in water immediately.
Water seedlings regularly until they become established. Though they flourish with occasional watering in especially dry weather, mature plants can tolerate short periods of drought in addition to adapting to many soil types. Deadhead to prolong blooming. This plant may self-seed. It makes an excellent choice as a ground cover or border plant, as well as performing well as a container plant.
