I have been warmed by the news received from my friends, excitingly sharing that they saw dolphins in the Waterfront from the promenade, foxes in sight while walking to the shops in Kenilworth and a leopard spotted in the Cedarberg!
Plus, when doing my own research, I came across many surprising statistics relating to positive environmental changes. Such as in Delhi India, there air quality index (AQI) levels which are usually a severe 200 on a good day (anything above 25 is deemed unsafe by World Health Organization) have fallen to below 20! I was filled with joy while reading that the skies were a rare piercing blue, that stars are now visible at night and sounds of chirruping birds can be heard.
The global shutdown has given us a glimpse at a greener and cleaner future.
We should all be using the extra time on our hands to plan how we can be more eco-friend post the pandemic. What new easy habits can we adopt in our homes? and what old ways can we be sure not to go back to? These can be as simple as not using or purchasing plastic products that end up in landfills and in our oceans.
For those of you lucky enough to have a garden to grow your own home produce from, attached below is a link explaining what the best plants and veggies are to harvest for autumn.
If you are South African, Spekboom, an indigenous succulent is a highly recommended which is easy to plant, water wise, suitable for all seasons and weather conditions and most importantly it helps fight climate change and air pollution by improving the quality of air we breathe!
This proudly South African plant is also edible and full of nutrients, especially vitamin C and is a perfect addition to salads. In addition, it has multiple medicinal benefits.
I have seen online that many local garden nurseries are open during lockdown whom also deliver, meaning you would be able to support businesses during this time and get your own Spekboom or new plants.
All our functional products are designed to be eco-friendly and allow for you to live a more sustainable lifestyle. I encourage you all to become conscious consumers, proud of the products you choose, leading by example and being mindful of your impact on this beautiful planet.
